I have had this domain for many years, never truly used it, and even lost it once before buying it back.
I was trapped behind the concept since 2016, like an infinite loop that never ended.
Blogging here and there, posting on Twitter and Medium, archiving it all. Starting again.
Then the pandemic caught us all, so I said, why not use the lockdown to build my site in my free time.
But how do you capture all the shades, angles, and interests of a person curious about everything? I studied architecture. At 15, I built my first website by following a Blogspot tutorial from a tech guy in Spain, so I could sell houses I had built for The Sims. And then, naturally, made a website for my band. Yes, I played guitar and sang; I still do when I’m in the mood.
What about my acting years, or the Kafka performance I took part in Lima? And in what way could I explain finding my place in tech by persistently showing up at a local agency until they gave me a chance, despite not having an engineering or design degree?
Like most interns, I was paid poorly. I started by creating Facebook content for clients and helping with SEO—the first time I had even heard the term, back in 2011 (or was it 2010?). But I brought dedication, time, a wonderfully random iPod playlist with “Tick Tick Boom” by The Hives as its one constant, and a lot of jogging. The trip home from the office took three and a half hours, and I could only afford two bus rides a day even though my commute required four: two to get there and two to get back. So I took the buses in the morning and walked the way home.
Still... I was amazed by everything I learned, especially the day I discovered WordPress. The website developer at the agency needed an extra hand, and I was there for it, which blew my mind and made me their new junior developer. I was assigned to design the “about” page for a plastic surgeon website, and he then guided me in implementing my first custom post type.
How to tell all that in a single website about... “me”?
So I started crafting, first in Sketch: portfolio-v1.0.0. Then I didn't like the colors too much, since they didn't reflect what I wanted to convey, so it became portfolio-v1.0.1, and so on... I was discovering one thing, and a new patch version became a new minor version, and with a new year, a major version started. New things to tell the world about me, new ideas I wanted to share. First, I focused on me as a designer. As a developer, then back to a mix between designer and developer, so let's talk better about me as a musician (yes, still post some of my songs to SoundCloud, but this time just for me, not for the world to see), then back to my roots and starting all over again.
At some point, I blamed my ADHD for working against me when it comes to personal projects.
However, over the years, my ideas gradually cleared and became organized. It could be aging, or just that I stopped being enthusiastic about everything and focused on mastering what I loved most. Fast forward, the ideas cleared, and after following the adventures of the best in my field, Gergely Orosz and Wes Bros, I decided to start (the first step to everything) and focus on my tech. I started dusting off those archived posts from back in 2015 and decided to put them here for the world to see in a single place for the first time.
